Miyajima: Sunrise

If you know Marchelo and I, then you probably know that we are not morning people. However, I was so very glad that we decided to get up before dawn to beat the crowds and experience the gate in the early morning light. We were rewarded right away by seeing two eagles fly toward and then land on the Otorri gate (you can see them on the right side).

Yup, already totally worth getting out of bed.

As the sky began to brighten and warm the day, the morning song was played all over the island (watch the video with the sound on).

On our way back for breakfast, we spent some time with the local deer. If you turn the sound on the video, you can hear them 'squeaking'. It's almost like a 'rusty door swing' sound.

(As always with wild animals in park like settings: look, but don't touch or feed)

After that awesome morning, it was time to catch up with Kate and Jon to explore the Daishō-in Buddhist temple.
